The story

It started as a sheet of paper

Before BlockWise was an app, it was a printed grid on a desk: 05:30 to 21:30, cut into 20-minute blocks — 48 of them — with a section at the bottom for interruptions. It ran real working days for years. This is the app that sheet deserved.

The founder

Douglas Knight runs businesses, not software companies. His days were full of the things BlockWise now handles: several companies on the go at once, a team to manage, R&D time that needed evidencing at year end, and suppliers whose failures cost real money that nobody could ever quite prove.

The paper time-box sheet solved the planning problem — every evening, the next day laid out in advance, block by block. What paper couldn't do was add anything up. It couldn't say which client got 60 hours last quarter, who interrupted deep work most often, or how many hours of development time went into which company. Every one of those answers had to be rebuilt from memory, badly, after the fact.

Douglas is also heavily dyslexic. Most productivity software is a wall of dense text, tiny buttons and settings forms — built by people who read effortlessly, for people who read effortlessly. BlockWise is built the other way: icons as language, generous type, room to write properly, and voice or pen anywhere there's a keyboard. Accessibility isn't a feature tacked on at the end; it's the reason the app looks the way it does.

The journey

  • Years of paperThe time-box sheet runs daily working life: planned the evening before, ticked and annotated through the day, filed as the honest record of what happened.
  • June 2026 — the system is namedThe sheet and the staff priority template are documented properly, and the idea forms: this should be an app anyone can use.
  • July–August 2026 — designed in the openThirty-two features specified in detail across twenty versions of a build specification — every decision recorded, every rejected idea kept on a list so the app stays simple. The prototype is approved for build.
  • Launching soon — the App Store & Google PlayBlockWise ships with the daily tool first, then sync, calendar connections and the full analytics engine as fast, steady updates. Launch quickly, update forever.

What we believe

Plan forward, never backwards. A plan made in advance is a commitment; one filled in afterwards is a story. BlockWise only plans forward, and seals the past so your records stay worth something.

Power and simplicity. Every feature earns its place by serving a real working day. Auto-scheduling engines, gamification streaks, wearable tracking — considered, and rejected. The grid stays clean.

Your data is yours. No ads. Nothing about your schedule, tasks, companies or people ever leaves your account for a commercial purpose. Export everything, delete everything, any time.

Friendly first contact. The first thing you meet is a warm welcome and your language choice — never a cold form.
